Success comes to those who persevere. This timeless saying holds true for Ankita Dey, a young woman from West Bengal who faced numerous challenges to make it to the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). She achieved an All India Rank (AIR) of 312 in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE exam). Now, she has land her dream job at Microsoft.
A bright student since childhood, Ankita completed her Class 10th and Class 12th education at Douglas Memorial Higher Secondary School in Kolkata. She achieved 91 per cent in class 10 and 92.8 per cent in her Class 12 exams. She then went on to pursue a BTech in Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) at the Academy of Technology.
Ankita had long dreamed of studying at IIT, and she dedicated herself to cracking the highly competitive GATE exam. In 2020, she passed the exam and gained admission to IIT Kanpur. There, she pursued a Master of Technology (MTech) in Computer Science (CS). Today, she works as a Software Development Engineer (SDE) at the American tech giant Microsoft.
In an interview, Ankita shared that her interest in coding began during her BTech days. However, her journey was far from easy: she prepared for the GATE exam while working a private job, reported DNA India. She revealed that she would study every day after returning from work, even on the train to and from her office. On her days off, Ankita would study for 6 to 7 hours as part of her GATE preparation. She advises students preparing for GATE to attempt as many mock papers as possible.
